HISTORY OF THE IHA

The origin of the International Hoya Association was the Hoya Society, West Coast, which began with a small newsletter published in April, 1988. By the third issue in July-August, 1988, the newsletter carried its first color photo of a hoya species. By the end of its second year of publication, this informal group of hoya aficionados, had changed into the International Hoya Association, with full non-profit status. The Journal went to quarterly publication under the new name of the Fraterna. At the present time, the Fraterna appears regularly with from 16 to 20 pages in each issue. Each issue contains up to 6 color photos of hoya species.

There are two affiliated, regional groups. The San Diego Hoya Group based in San Diego, California, USA and Svenska Hoya Sälsakapet based in Borlänge, Sweden. The San Diego Group started with just a few people and has grown to about 50 members. The Group meets quarterly. Svenska Hoya Sälsakapet publishes a quarterly newsletter in Swedish which now includes a few photos in each issue.
